Headquarters for the new “Google Fiber for Ventura” Campaign will be located in Ventura County’s only high-tech business incubator, the Ventura Ventures Technology Center (V2TC), 505 Poli Street, 3rd floor, Ventura.

International search engine giant Google, Inc. recently announced they would bring “ultra-high-speed internet access” on a pilot basis to half a million households and dozens of American communities have indicated interest. This week, the City of Ventura became the first in California to win Council approval for responding to Google’s request for information (RFI).

In addition to Council and staff endorsement of the RFI, there has been a groundswell of community support, including launch of a Facebook page. More than two dozen community members, including high-tech entrepreneurs, industry experts, representatives from educational institutions, public agencies and local organizations attended the Council meeting to encourage the city’s participation in the RFI.

“It’s our war room,” joked City Manager Rick Cole. “We’re gathering the best private, public and community sector brains and talent and figuring out how to seize the initiative for ultra high speed internet in Ventura.”

“Hosting the ‘Google Fiber for Ventura’ campaign headquarters in the incubator is a perfect fit,” said Alex Schneider, V2TC Executive Director. “The incubator is designed to foster a creative environment where tech-savvy entrepreneurs and companies are actively networking and brainstorming. We have more than 13 new, high-tech and software businesses in the incubator -- what better place for promoting Ventura in Google’s Fiber for Communities program?”
